You need to call your local DMV and ask where to start .As you need to take the trailer to the DMV or local highway patrol office and have them attach or stamp a VIN# to the trailer and give you paperwork to the DMV to register it...........UJN

You go in and tell them you have a homemade trailer you want to register. They will ask number of axles, and capacity, so have some idea what its load will be.
In Houston/Harris County area a single axle small trailer ran me about $48. then add all the taxes and it should be around $60.
Every county has different rates and different tax bases.
